Brave Soul

I write a few poems a year, when inspiration strikes. Occasionally I write and perform them for an event, but the majority of them are for me and nobody ever sees them. I’ve always thought I should do something with them and never got round to it, but my wife collected them together for me for my birthday, and printed up this collection.

I was both delighted and mortified – delighted at a thoughtful gift and a considerable amount of work. And mortified because some of the material here is straight out of the bargain bin of my brain, and not everything is even finished. Still, friends and family have received copies and people like them, so perhaps I should have had more confidence in these oddments from the start.

I will make this available somewhere. In the meantime, here are a couple of poems:

Stones before the ocean

I only write poetry occasionally, but when I do I seem to get a good response. My Christmas poem Earthed is regularly used in carol services.

Among other places, it appears in the anthology Stones Before the Ocean, compiled by Daniel Paul Gilbert and published in 2017.
